about wichita parks
The Wichita area features over 80 park and recreation areas offering everything from beautiful settings for picnic lunches to pony rides for the kids. Most Wichita parks are open year-round for endless hours of family entertainment. The following are descriptions of three featured parks in the Wichita area.
riverside park
The three separate parks in the Riverside Parks System form the heart of the Wichita Parks. The parks are located along the beautiful Arkansas River, one of the few places in the area where water can be found. The parks feature a wildlife exhibit, boat ramp, playgrounds, stage and tennis courts.
O.J. Watson Park
This former sand pit area has been landscaped and developed to provide a “water park” with fishing and boating facilities, picnic areas, hayrack rides, campfire circle and playground areas. The lake is stocked every other week with 850 pounds of channel catfish to ensure good fishing throughout the summer. The park is open from 8 AM to 10 PM, seven days a week during spring, summer and early fall.
Herman Hill Park
A wooded park on the banks of the Arkansas River in South Wichita. Herman Hill features a children’s play area, 18 holes disc golf course, a neighborhood police substation and a water treatment demonstration project.
